How do I get to St Albans from Heathrow Airport

Stansted Airport to St Albans- Driving options

There are two main driving options when driving to St Albans from Stansted Airport. The first option utilises the M11 and the M25. This option can often get you from Stanstead Airport to St Albans in 45 minutes and even at busier times; the journey can be completed in around an hour.

The other option utilises the A120 and while this is a slightly longer journey at most times, taking around 50 minutes, there are times when it can be the more reliable journey. Both routes are susceptible to delays during peak hours (between 7am and 9am and then again between 5pm and 7pm) but there will be times when the A120 is the more suitable option.

Before setting off from Stansted Airport, it is recommended to check a travel planner or access social media to determine if there are known delays on either of these two routes.

The fastest way to get from Stansted Airport to St Albans with public transport involves using the train and the London Underground. At Stansted Airport, take the train heading to Liverpool Street Station but alight at Tottenham Hale. This should take just over half an hour and from there, you should transfer to the London Underground and join the Victoria Line. You should take the train heading in the direction of Brixton and alight at kings Cross St Pancras Station. This journey should take just over 10 minutes.

From St Pancras, there will be trains heading in the direction of St Albans, including trains heading to Luton and this journey should take around 30 minutes. This means the total travel time from Stansted Airport to St Albans via train should take an hour and 10 minutes with additional waiting time at the connection points.

An alternative way to complete this journey would be to travel from Stansted Airport, on the train heading to Liverpool Street Station but alight at Mile End. This journey should take around 50 minutes and from here, the traveller should transfer to the Hammersmith & City line, and travel to Farringdon. This is a 15 minute journey and allows for an easy connection to Farringdon Station, where a train can be taken to St Albans. The final leg of the journey will take around 25 minutes which means the total travel time will be around 90 minutes and then there is the waiting time at the connecting points.


Stansted Airport to St Albans - Bus options

A way to travel from Stansted Airport to St Albans via bus begins by taking the National Express 737 service which is travelling towards Oxford but you should alight at Hatfield. This is a non-stop service and it should take around 45 minutes. From here, passengers should go The Galleria Stop A and take the 301 bus service heading in the direction of Hemel Hempstead.

This service stops in St Albans and this leg should take less than 15 minutes. This means the travel time of this journey will take around an hour and your total journey time will depend on how long you have to wait for your connection.
