Despite the online sources other than the university, the history of the University of Hertfordshire was established in 1941 when the Hertfordshire County Council signed a partnership with the de Havilland Aircraft Company for the training of 15 to 16-year-old aircraft trainees. It enlightened the council about education who passed the 1944 Education Act that made secondary education mandatory for technical education. In September 1952, Hatfield Technical College came into being with around 1,738 pupils.

Interestingly, the origin of university goes prior to the 20th century as historians suggest Roe Green in Hatfield as the first and original campus of the University of Hertfordshire. The land was bought in the 17th century by the Gap family and in the 1920s was sold to a farmer named ‘Hill’ who later sold the land to Alan Butler, who was chairman of the de Havilland Aircraft Company.
