According to online sources, the history of St Michaels Church, St Albans came into existence in the 10th century. Matthew Paris, a 13th-century renowned monk and raconteur reported in his write that the Wulsin of St Alban’s Abbey laid foundation of three churches in St Albans: St Peter’s Church, St Michaels Church, and St Stephen’s Church in 948 A.D. He further relates that these three religious institutions were necessary to serve and facilitate the pilgrims coming to visit the shrine of Saint Alban.

He led quite a heroic life filled with devotion, honesty, passion and enthusiasm. He lays beneath the monument to Francis Bacon at his burial place at St Michael’s Church in St Albans.
