St Albans City FC was instituted in April 1908. The club started its football career in 1881 unofficially, playing several matches within the Old Roman Stronghold. Unfortunately, the club met its demise in 1904 due to several odd reasons. However, upon four years of struggling the club managed to make a comeback in 1908, acquiring the name as St Albans City FC. During its initial stages, the club footballed in Spartan Leagues and Hertz County to build up their emerging name. But success did not reach the club’s pavement until in 1920 when St Albans City FC played in the Athenian League and won the championship twice in three years. St Albans City FC also won the Isthmian League in its first attempt which further led to two consecutive wins in the same decade. St Albans City FC remained a prominent member of the Isthmian League until 2003.

Due to ultimate success in the Football, St Albans City FC made it to the big tournaments and leagues after consecutive wins in the 1920s. The club was invited to participate in several Amateur Cups, and it reached the semi-final in most of them. However, the level of competition still lacked to win the title. St Albans City FC struggled its way with wins and lost throughout following decades. In fact, the club reached so many semi-final games that it created an unwanted world record in 1970 to be the first club to have reached the semi-final so many times. Since the club’s beginning, it only had managed to claim one title for the FA Cup by defeating the Brentford (5-3) in 1924. Of all the honours and achievements, the greatest and by far widely-recognised prestigious win was the famous win of London Senior Cup in 1971. St Albans City FC has won ten other primary cups 49 times throughout their professional football journey.
