Established as \u2018<\/span>The Grand Cinema Palace<\/b>\u2019, the history of Gaumont St Albans started with its successful opening in June 1922. Gaumont Cinema St Albans attracted hundreds of locals due to 130 feet huge hall\/auditorium and that could easily accommodate 1,100 people with 308 separate balcony seating. Later, an additional door was added to facilitate in and outs to the Gaumont St Albans, that door opened to the Granville Road that is one of the valued areas in St Albans today.<\/span><\/p>\n

In just a few years, thousands of cinematic fans visited the enthralling Gaumont St Albans Cinema. The interior of the Gaumont Cinema consisted of a small stage fit for a variety of theatrical performances, an orchestra pit, and glass-covered-canopy was added as part of the refurbishment in 1932.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1937, General Cinema Finance<\/a> sought ownership from the Grand Cinema Palace<\/a> and run the St Albans\u2019 prestigious cinema for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few years later, Odeon Cinemas<\/a> acquired the rights of the cinema in 1943 and flourished the cinema with exponential success, things were finally beginning to change for the market town of Hertfordshire.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Grand Cinema to Gaumont St Albans:<\/b><\/p>\n

In 1950, Odeon St Albans was renamed to Gaumont St Albans cinema. It was the last name Gaumont St Albans underwent. Despite few competitors, Gaumont Cinema St Albans did not have any hurdle in their way to success.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sadly, Gaumont St Albans was permanently closed on October 27<\/span>th,<\/span> 1973 because the Odeon St Albans Cinemas were making triple fame and money. Later, the disused cinema site was occupied by the Chequers Bingo Club (a subsidiary chain of Chequers Cinema St Albans<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1987, the building was again shut down due to odd reasons and demolished along to be finally replaced by apartments.<\/span><\/p>\n
